Mr. Al Rodriguez
Adjunct Professor
School of Accounting
Since joining FIU in 1986 as an Adjunct Professor, Mr. Rodriguez has shared his corporate career experience with his students while teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for the School of Accounting and for the Department of Finance. On occasions, he has also taught Quantitative Methods of Business for Decision Sciences. |
Mr. Rodriguez has held various professional positions in Accounting, Auditing, and Finance with privately held companies and with public companies. He was Controller for an NYSE listed company, and was CFO/COO for a tri-county multi-discipline medical practice. He was also CFO/Treasurer for the Miami-Dade College Foundation.
Between 1996 and 2003, Mr. Rodriguez was Board member and Treasurer of a small $350M financial institution.
In 2002-2003 he became involved in Sarbanes-Oxley, incorporating this Act into corporate accounting reporting processes. He also made presentations on the Section 404B auditing and reporting requirements for the external auditor.
To complement his Accounting/Financing career, Mr. Rodriguez mastered the Six Sigma Methodology and became Green Belt certified in 2003 and Black Belt certified in 2005.
As a CPA and CISA, he volunteered and was selected by the Treasury Department in 2006 to become a member of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel representing taxpayers' interests with the IRS.

A resident of Miami was recently selected by the Treasury Department to serve on the nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (AP). Panel members listen to taxpayers, identify issues and make suggestions for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction.
Al is one of 97 volunteers selected as panel members. He will represent local taxpayers as well as work on national issues. Upon his selection, Al, said, "It is an honor to serve the community in this capacity and to have the opportunity to influence hos the IRS delivers services to the public."

Irma T. Alonso
Professor of Economics and Fellow of The Honors College
Dr. Alonso is an outstanding faculty member of Florida International University, winning awards in the areas of teaching, research, service, and advising. She joined FIU in 1977 after being the Chairperson of the Department of Economics at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. At FIU, besides Economics, Dr. Alonso is a faculty
member associated with the academic programs of Women’s Studies and |
of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She is also a fellow of The Honors College, where she has also been recognized as an Outstanding Fellow. As part of The Honors College she is an active participant of the Student Research and Artistic Initiative (SRAI) in which she has developed a course dealing with research methods, with the purpose of involving undergraduate students in research projects. In addition, Dr. Alonso is an active participant of the Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs), a program developed with the Academy of Teaching at FIU.
Dr. Alonso has been active in developing courses in Economics to be offered fully online. These courses include: Women, Culture and Economic Development, Women, Men and Work in the USA, and Latin American Economies. Her course design has been recognized as exemplary by the 2006 WebCT Course Project Team.
Dr. Alonso has been the editor and main contributor to the following publications: Trade Issues in the Caribbean (Gordon & Breach, 1992), Trade, Industrialization and Integration in Twentieth Century Central America (Praeger, 1994), and Caribbean Economies in the Twenty-first Century (University Press of Florida, 2002). Other publications include contributions to the Greenwood Encyclopedia of Women’s Issues Worldwide (2003), covering chapters detailing the situation of women in Puerto Rico, the French-speaking Caribbean, the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, and Belize.

In addition to his work at FIU, Dr. Perry is a senior organizational development (OD) consultant with a proven record of success in both the public and private sectors. His consulting expertise includes a variety of OD interventions, leadership development, executive coaching, strategic planning, process reengineering and team building. Dr. Perry is currently an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management, and the American Society of Training and Development.
