On-Campus Requirement
Please be advised, that some courses may require one or two mandatory on-campus session(s) and/or finding a proctor in your area for exams.
Required Skills
Students enrolling in online and hybrid courses will be expected to have moderate proficiency on a PC, be skilled in running an Internet browser, and be able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). They should also be able to use File Manager/Windows Explorer. Without these skills, students will have difficulty participating in online and hybrid courses. With them, students can enjoy success and benefit fully from the interactivity of online learning.
Required Hardware and Software
At a minimum, students must have the following in order to participate in an online or hybrid course:
- Personal Computer
- Internet Service Provider
- E-mail account (provided by FIU or other)
- Internet browser (MS-Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher recommended. No beta evaluation version please.)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Anti-virus software (McAfee or Norton)
The required system profile for the Personal Computer includes:
- Windows 98/NT/2000/XP or a Macintosh with System 9.2 or higher
- Pentium 600 or faster
- 64MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
- 6Gb hard drive (100 MB or more of free disc space; 1 GB recommended)
- CD-ROM and 3.5" floppy drives
- 56 Kbps v.90 modem (xDSL or cable modem recommended)
- Sound card
- Speakers
Please Note: When sending official e-mail messages, FIU and the College of Business Administration personnel will communicate with students via their FIU e-mail accounts only. Students wishing to use another ISP’s e-mail account service will be responsible for forwarding their messages.
